GRAND CANYON WEST, AZ – The Grand Canyon Skywalk Development LLC was proud to be honored this month as one of the “Best Places to Work” in the small business category by the Southern Nevada Human Resources Association (SNHRA).
More than 40 companies were nominated for the award, sponsored by the Las Vegas Review Journal and the Las Vegas Business Press.
“The credit for this award goes to each and every single Skywalk employee,” said Ted Quasula, general manager of the Grand Canyon Skywalk Development LLC.
“Our employees work very hard and travel long distances to go to work, and we want to show our appreciation by providing excellent benefits and creating a company they will want to be a part of for years to come,” Quasula said.
The professional association said it gives the awards to companies that put employee welfare at the top of their priority list. The Skywalk, which has about 110 employees, won second place among small businesses with 100-499 employees. Skywalk Human Resources Manager Maribeth Piscitelli, PHR, accepted the award.
The Skywalk now offers company paid health care and dental benefits to employees, a reduced-cost family benefit plan and a generous employer contribution 401K plan. Employees may also enroll in initiatives designed to improve health, including programs offering free vitamins and pedometers, and free online counseling sessions on fitness and nutrition. Employee transportation to and from work is also provided by the company. Employees are provided work uniforms, including footwear purchased at a corporate discount. An employee dining room is provided, and employees have input on the nutritiously conscious menu.
The Skywalk also pays for and encourages employees to participate in free professional development courses at Mohave Community College. GCSD instituted new training for managers on how to prevent harassment in the workplace and how to effectively discipline employees. All employees are required to complete ongoing customer service training. Supervisors and managers are provided extra training to support and assist employee development.
